Public holiday for Kedah if it wins Malaysia Cup final

ALOR STAR: A statewide public holiday awaits Kedah on Sunday if its football team wins the coveted Malaysia Cup final tonight.

Its Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, in a brief statement today, said the decision was made after a discussion with the state executive council, with the consent of the Council of Regency chairman Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah.

"Should employers insist that their employees turn up to work tomorrow, they must comply with the Employment Act 1955 in providing double payment of salary and overtime allowances for their employees for the day.

"Employers however are also allowed the replace the public holiday on any other day as subject to the provisions of the relevant laws," said Mukhriz.
